Karin Kanzuki wrote the name on the last envelope herself. It was a very special event indeed. For she would finally have her revenge on Sakura! Even though her previous attempts to defeat Sakura had failed, didn’t mean that they would now! For now Karin had an ally...one that was as thirsty for revenge on Sakura as she was... As Karin began to laugh, the servants shuddered. For the laughter that was coming out of Karin didn't sound quite human. It was as if there was another person inside of her laughing as well... *********^_^********** ___ ___ <__< BLOSSOMS IN THE SPRING <__< A crossover Improfanfic started by The Eternal Lost Lurker Street Fighter and all related trademarks belong to Capcom. Chapter 13: Sakura FOCUSes on the problem! *********^_^********** A blue ball of force grew in Sakura's hands. Across the mat, another similar ball of force was forming in Dan's hands. Both fighters glared at each other, and with a mighty cry from both, let loose their attacks. Unfortunately for Dan, his Gadoken dissipated a few inches away from him. Even more unfortunate for Dan was the fact that Sakura's Hadoken hit him right in the face, sending him reeling into unconsciousness. Sakura glanced down at the prone form of Dan and shook her head. Sakura was finding these training sessions with Dan were becoming easier and easier. It had been a few weeks since she had a true challenge. A few dull and boring weeks. Aside for that incident with the Shadow card a week and a half ago, nothing much had happened. She hadn't even caught Shadow in the end. All of this had left Sakura in a sort of rut. Sakura walked towards the girl's changing area to get out of her sweaty work clothes. Along the way, one of Dan's students handed her an envelope, but she didn't open it. As soon as she walked in the door to the changing room, a yellow plushy popped up right into her face. "Sakura! I watched you fight! Your technique is improving!" Kero over emphasized in an attempt to cheer Sakura up. Sakura didn't bother to answer. She just swatted Kero out of the way and sat down. "Sakura? What's wrong? Sakura?" Sakura quietly pulled out her Clow Cards. FIGHT. ILLUSION. PUSH. DREAM. MIRROR. THUNDER. FLOWER. FIRE. 8 cards out of a deck of 52. Things had been going really slowly. If she didn't find a way to pick up the pace, the universe would be in quite a bit of danger with the threat of imminent destruction. But for now...SHE WAS LATE FOR SCHOOL! Faster than you can say Kerberos, Sakura was changed and out the door. Even though he hadn't managed to cheer up Sakura, Kero was happy...that is until Sakura realized what happened, came back and slapped him silly. *********^_^********** Sakura ran into her classroom and took her seat next to Tomoyo. The teacher took 5 minutes of class time to lecture her on not being late, but due to some fast thinking, Sakura managed to come up with a plausible excuse. The school day was a typical one. Li staring a hold into the back of her head, Tomoyo asking her which costume design she should use next, and Sakura being generally bored out of her mind. Suffice it to say that when Sakura finally got out of school, she had the urge to hit something. So it was back to Dan's Dojo for her. As usual, Tomoyo accompanied her there. *********^_^********** Sakura blinked and rubbed her eyes. She looked at the chaos around her. Students were running all over the building, picking up things and tossing them into suitcases. Sakura reached out and pulled a student off to the side. "What's going on?" Sakura asked. "Dan is making us pack his suitcases. He says that it's stamina training, but I don't believe him." the student replied. "Where is Dan going?" "Why don't you ask him yourself?" So Sakura set off to find Dan. She found him in the last place she looked. The girl's changing room. "Dan?" Dan stood up from where he sat, and raised a fist in greeting. "Sakura! Would you like the honor of accompanying your sensei to a tournament?" "Huh?" Sakura said in a confused tone of voice. "Dan has received an invitation to attend a tournament." He held up an envelope with Sakura's name on it. "It came with two plane tickets. Would you like to come?" "Gimmie that!" Sakura yelled as she snatched the envelope out of Dan hand. She opened it up and took out the letter. Then she began to read. *********^_^********** Dear rival Kusagano, O HO HO HO HO! This is your personal invitation to attend a little tournament I put together. I do so hope you will attend. I'm looking forward to beating you like I was going to last time we fought! See, I know now the way to beat you, once and for all! I will bring honor back to the Kanzuki name! O HO HO HO HO! Ever your superior, Karin Kanzuki *********^_^********** Sakura sighed. "...Does she really have to write O HO HO in all of her letters?" Sakura then took her invitation and her plane tickets and ran back to the front of the dojo, Dan chasing her all the way there. She pulled up just in front of Tomoyo and blurted out. "DoyouwanttocomewithmetothisfightingtournamentbecauseIdon'twanttohaveto gowithDan?" Tomoyo backpedaled a bit and responded with a simple, "No." And so, Sakura responded to that with a simple, "Hoee?" Dan then ruined the rest of Sakura's day. "So it's settled then! You, my #1 disciple shall accompany me to this fighting tournament! I suggest that you go pack, for the plane leaves tomorrow!" Sakura gave a dark glare to Tomoyo as she walked out of the dojo. *********^_^********** "But Sakura! You can't blame me for this! Li asked me to go with him to the fighting tournament at lunch!" Tomoyo explained. That one really threw Sakura for a loop. "You mean that Li is invited as well?" "He got his invitation in the morning. Didn't you?" Sakura sweatdropped. "Umm...I think I did...but I also think I left it in the dojo..." "Well, on the bright side, you are finally going to have some real fights." "And I may be able to teach that Li kid a lesson!" It was now Tomoyo's turn to sweatdrop. "That's not exactly what I had in mind..." *********^_^********** The next day found Sakura standing at Kanzuki's private air strip. Apparently, the plane tickets were for a round trip on Karin's private jet. Sakura met up with Tomoyo, Li and Dan, and they all boarded the plane together. Sakura and Dan sat on one side of the isle, while Li and Tomoyo filled out the other side. Strangely, Karin was not on the plane. There were a few other fighters the plane as well, but none were recognizable by Sakura. The flight itself was uneventful except for the fact that Dan was constantly blabbing about how he could take on every fighter on the plane and win. Soon the plane landed at it's destination. Hong Kong. *********^_^********** Sakura entered her hotel room, followed closely by Tomoyo and Li. She plopped her luggage down on the bed and took a look around the room. Only on word could accurately describe the room. "Hoeee?" The room was huge. Apparently, Karin had spared no expense on her. The best suite in the hotel. The best hotel in Hong Kong. The trip to Hong Kong itself. For some odd reason, Karin was providing her with the best of comforts. Tomoyo moved over to one of Sakura's smaller suitcases and opened it, letting Kero out. Kero had ridden the entire way to Hong Kong in the luggage compartment. Suffice it to say, he wasn't very happy. "Ah! I almost died in there! The old Sakura would never let that happen to me!" raved Kero. "As I recall, you took quite a few bumps on the way to Hong Kong the last time Sakura brought you here." reminded Tomoyo. Sakura was now confused. "I've been to Hong Kong before?" Kero spoke up to fill Sakura in. "Yeah, and suffice it to say that you didn't have much fun. On the bright side though, neither did Li." Li grabbed Kero by his ear. "You mean that I was here? With her? Please tell me that she didn't meet my mother." Kero crossed his arms and attempted to nod his head. "That's exactly what happened." Kero supplied. "As I recall, you mother is quite a powerful sorceress. Maybe she has some ideas on how to slow the destruction of the universe?" "What?" Li yelled. But by this point Kero was ignoring him, and Sakura and Tomoyo had gone out onto the balcony. Li decided to leave them alone...for now. He'd be able to take out his frustrations on Sakura at the tournament anyways. *********^_^********** That afternoon proved to be just as bad as the morning had been for Li. Kero had decided to indeed seek out the advice of his mother, and had left already to talk with her. Li also found out that each fighter in the tournament was to be kept isolated until their fight, and after it as well. The tournament itself was composed of 16 fighters. Li had spent the past hour readying for his first fight. Another rule was that the matches were random. None of the fighters knew whom they were going to fight. And on top of all of this headache, Tomoyo had spent most of the day with Sakura. He had invited her to come along. Not Sakura! Now he couldn't wait to fight with Sakura. He wasn't about to let anyone stand in the way of his fury. He would have his revenge! *********^_^********** Sakura returned to her isolated room after her second fight. It had definitely gone much easier than her first fight against the bizarre purple striped female. Admittedly, she hadn't had much of a challenge there either, but her second fight had been a joke. The drunken fighter named Shin had drunk too much, and passed out during the fight. At least Dan wasn't much of an annoyance. He had spent 15 minutes trying to convince security to let him in because he was invited to fight. Although he did seem to give up too easily. But still, he was still the same old Dan. Anyways, it was concentrating on her next fight that mattered. Although, Tomoyo HAD been trying to get her attention during the second fight...as if she had something important to tell her. But it could probably wait. Sakura wasn't even able to talk with anyone outside anyways. Again, Karin's butler came in to inform Sakura that Karin had won another match. It looked to Sakura as if Karin was trying to psych her out before they fought. But Sakura had no idea if she'd even get to face Karin. After all, she didn't know who her next opponent was. But she'd soon find out as they called her for her match... *********^_^********** Sakura walked out into the open arena, and stretched a bit while waiting for the next fighter to arrive. And there was Tomoyo again, trying to get her attention. But she had to keep her focus on the fight. She couldn't be distracted by anything. Then the next fighter walked in. It was the cute guy who had saved her in that Fire card debacle a few weeks back. She had seen him fight then, and he hadn't been overly impressive. Sakura had wanted to see him again, mainly to say thanks. Toya was also surprised to see the girl here. He hadn't seen her since a few weeks back when that weird masked wrestler was chasing her. And in those few weeks, an ache had grown in his heart. He needed to see her again. And now here she was. He had to say something. Sakura spoke first, breaking the slightly awkward silence. "Umm, before we start fighting I wanted to thank you for helping me out at the baseball game. You were gone before I could properly thank you." She bowed to Toya. "I hope we can have a good fight." A wry grin appeared on Toya's face. "You're welcome. I have something to ask you as well. Would you like to go out with me tonight?" Sakura's face turned a red color at Toya's question. She muttered nervously as she fiddled with her fingers. The guy was very cute, but this was only the second time she had met him. She didn't even really know who he was, yet he was already asking her on a date. But for some reason her heart beat faster when she looked at him, and feelings she had never felt before filled her heart. It was almost like the time she had first seen Ryu fight, except this felt different in a way she couldn't quite explain. She shook those thoughts out of her head though, and glared at her foe "Hey! We're here to fight, not to make a date!" She yelled as took a fighting stance. "You didn't say no," Toya said with a smirk as he took a fighting stance. "At least let me take you out for dinner as a way to thank you for helping me out in that fight..." "Fine." Sakura replied nervously, "But you have to pay for it. And you at least have to tell me your name." Toya grinned. "Of course. My name is Toya Kinomoto. I'll pick you up from your hotel room around eightish." Sakura had stopped listening to him after he announced his name. It was impossible! Kinomoto was the name of the other Sakura...Things fell into place in Sakura's mind as Sakura's world fell apart. Just then, the buzzer sounded, indicating the start of the match. Sakura reacted slowly at first, still in shock at the news she just received. Seeing this, Toya quickly leaped into the air towards her, doing a somersault at the apex of his jump. Sakura tried to bring her hands up for a block, but she reacted too slowly. The heel of Toya's foot connected squarely with her forehead, sending her crashing to the floor and into unconsciousness. *********^_^********** Sakura was on a rooftop facing towards Tokyo Tower. She looked around to find herself completely surrounded by Clow Cards. She looked out towards the tower. A face. Blurred. Indistinct. But those eyes! A card floated into Sakura's vision and she grabbed it. It was a blank Clow Card. Suddenly the card glowed and a name began to take shape. Sakura could barely make it out before... Dan, looking very beat up, was standing in the crowd area of the arena holding up a Clow Card in one hand, other hand raised in victory. *********^_^********** Sakura opened her eyes and sat up. She was inside the infirmary of the stadium. She couldn't remember how she got there. Sakura winced as she felt her forehead. "Oh, that's what happened." Sakura had lost. "Are you ok, Sakura?" The voice...was Tomoyo's. Sakura guessed that they let visitors into the infirmary. Sakura lay back. "Tomoyo?" Sakura asked, just wanting to say anything to take her mind off her loss. "Who's Tomoyo? I'm Yuriko. Y-U-R-I-K-O. Remember?" That's right. Tomoyo had another identity in public. Sakura still didn't understand that. Remembering that seemed to nag at Sakura. It was as if she had forgotten something else. Something important... Sakura sat up quickly. Her dream! Dan was in her dream! And Sakura was feeling something tugging at her. A magical force. A Clow Card! "Sakura? What's wrong? You should lie down and rest for a bit." Tomoyo said concernedly. Sakura didn't respond. She just leapt up from her bed, and ran into the hallway. She pulled the Clow key from her pocket and held it up as she ran. Sakura began to chant. "THE KEY THAT HIDES THE FORCES OF DARKNESS! SHOW YOUR TRUE IDENTITY! I, SAKURA COMMAND YOU UNDER THE COVENANT. RELESE THE SEAL!" The key elongated, and formed into the familiar staff form. By this point, Tomoyo had managed to catch up, and asked Sakura, "What's going on? Do you sense a Clow Card?" Tomoyo got a short and blunt answer. "Yes." *********^_^********** The fight was supposed to have started five minutes ago. Li was starting to get bored. Apparently, his opponent was still in her room raging over some fighter's loss in the other round. Unfortunately, dues to the tournament rules, he didn't know who that was. Somehow this other fighter knew though. Just then, Karin walked out from the back. She looked a little frazzled and unkempt. Most of all, she looked worn out. Karin had spent the last five minutes forcibly rearranging her room. She hadn't taken the news of Sakura's loss well. Karin stopped a moment to size up her opponent. According to her new partner, this fighter was also a captor. The card hated him, but not as much as it did Sakura. Which was just great, since Karin didn't want to mess up her surprise for Sakura by accidentally utilizing Shot. What Karin wasn't sure of though, was if she had enough steam left to take him down without Shot's help. Her outburst in her room had left her tired. Then the buzzer sounded, and Karin didn't have time to worry about things like that. Then something unexpected happened. Karin heard the chant. The chant that Shot hated above all else. The chant to seal a Clow Card. Li heard it too. He had to assume that Sakura had somehow located and sealed a card somewhere near the back of the arena. Yet, now that he focused on it, there was still the feel of a card in the area. If Sakura hadn't captured it yet, she would need his help. Especially if the card had resisted capture somehow. So he did the only thing he could think of. He yelled out, "I forfeit." and ran towards where he thought Sakura was. Karin just gaped at him. Then sweatdropped. Then raised her hand in victory. *********^_^********** Sakura came out into the crowd section of the arena. She saw Li waiting for a fight. Then she saw Karin come out. But where was Dan? She decided to pose that very question to Tomoyo. "Do you see him?" Tomoyo blinked and looked around. "Who? Li?" "Dan." Tomoyo squinted at something. "There he is. A few rows down." So Sakura took off again. As she neared, she chanted, "RETURN TO THE FORM YOU WERE DESTINED TO BE! CLOW CARD!" With that, she brought her staff down...and hit Dan on his head. Dan had been sleeping. Needless to say, when Sakura hit him, he woke up. He leapt up to his feet, and began to gather energy between his hands. Sakura took the opportunity to jump back a few feet and put some distance between them. Tomoyo pulled out her trusty video camera and focused it on the battle that was about to take place. "Captor. I've been waiting." Dan grinned evilly. "I know who you are card. Your name is FOCUS!" Sakura guessed. Dan faltered a bit. "You know?" "I had a dream. You were in it. Deal with it." "It does not matter. Merely guessing my name does not sap my strength. In fact, I'm so confident in my strength. This body is well conditioned." Sakura laughed. "Dan? I can beat Dan any day of the week. In fact, I just beat him yesterday. What makes you think you have a chance?" "Because I have the one thing Dan lacks." With that, he released the energy that had been building in his hands. It hit Sakura square in the chest and sent her flying into a wall a few feet away. "I have focus." *********^_^********** It was time for the final match. It was taking all of Karin's willpower just to stay put. Shot seemed to think that now was a good time to defeat Sakura, but Karin wasn't too sure. The sounds of distant battle was heard, and it didn't sound like anything Karin wanted a part of right now. Besides, if she stayed here, she'd be able to teach the upstart that had defeated Sakura a lesson. Toya walked out to face off with his final opponent. He felt bad for knocking out Sakura like he did in his last match. He vowed to make this a good fight. Sakura would like to see him take the championship here. Besides, he'd be able to cover the expense of dinner if he won the prize. The buzzer sounded. Karin started off with a quick fury of punches, which were blocked by her opponent. The battle had begun. *********^_^********** Li ran towards the card with his sword drawn. He leapt into the air, and extended his leg in a traditional flying kick. Dan just reached up and grabbed his leg before he made contact. Dan threw him to the ground. "So the other captor has arrived. Are you going to go down as easily as the first?" Li pulled out an odufa and threw it at Dan. Dan grabbed it out of the air as well and threw it back at Li. It briefly flared up and singed Li's sleeve. Quickly jumping to his feet, Li ran towards Dan and let loose a quick fury of slashes. Dan managed to dodge them all, then spun around and delivered a kick to the back of Li's head, sending him sprawling again. Luckily, Sakura came in to save Li from more punishment. With a quick Shun-pu-kick to Dan, followed up by a crushing overhead kick that knocked Dan to the floor. As Dan began to get up, Sakura decided to use one of her cards. Sakura reached into her pocket and pulled out the first card she found. "CARD CRAFTED BY CLOW, GIVE YOUR POWER TO MY STAFF! CLOW CARD!" Dan fell asleep. Sakura stared at the results of her card, and realized she had used DREAM. Since being asleep semi releases the card, Sakura thought it prudent to dispel her magic immediately. Unfortunately, nothing happened. Dan remained asleep. Even more unfortunate was that FOCUS had jumped into the air and brought his fist down on Sakura's skull. Sakura was once again down for the count. *********^_^********** Karin relished in her victory. Her opponent had fought hard, but had gone down before the might of Karin Kanzuki! Something inside her told her something was not right though. The fact that she had beaten this worthless fighter easily might have something to do with it. If SHE had been able to beat him, surely Sakura would have. Sakura had lost on purpose! She had robbed her of her revenge! Karin would not stand for this! But for now, Karin was content to wait. Karin had this victory to celebrate today, and Sakura could wait for another day. *********^_^********** Li was in trouble. The Clow Card was separated from Dan, but still retained all of his skills. Worse than that was the fact that the card could not be captured when Dan was sleeping. Even worse than that, was that Sakura was down and out. There was no way to even try to seal the card. Focus charged forwards and delivered a Kouryuuken, launching Li straight up into the air. Which he then followed up with a smashing roundhouse to the back of his head, sending him in the opposite direction he sent Sakura earlier. Focus looked around for another target. The only person still standing in the area was Tomoyo. She had also been present when he had been sealed. But when was that? Why couldn't he remember? Focus decided to find out. Focus ran towards Tomoyo and grabbed her by the collar of her shirt. He glared down into her face and began to speak. "Why can't I remember being sealed?" Tomoyo looked up and raised her camera. "Can you hold that pose for me? This is a great shot." Focus' jaw dropped. This girl was not intimidated in the least. What was wrong with her? Didn't she watch when he single handedly defeated both captors? Maybe she knew something he didn't? "OOSHA! Dan is reborn!" Focus dropped Tomoyo, turned around and came face to face with Dan. Focus gasped a mighty, "Hoee?" before dissipating and returning to his spot inside Dan. "Dan will not be an easy target for you this time! Dan has the will to resist! Dan is invincible! YAHOO!" Then Dan punched himself in the face. *********^_^********** Sakura came to consciousness for the third time that evening. She reached out for the staff which had fallen a few inches away. Then she stood up to survey the scene. Tomoyo was still there videotaping, Li was nowhere to be seen, and Dan was beating himself up. Wait...Dan beating himself up? Sakura had to look twice at the scene unfolding. There was Dan, punching and kicking himself. Sakura ran towards Tomoyo. "Tomoyo! What's going on?" "Nothing Sakura, Dan has just found the power within to resist the card. Maybe you should help him get rid of it before he kills himself?" "Right!" Sakura ran to Dan, and raised her staff. "RETURN TO THE FORM YOU WERE DESTINED TO BE! CLOW CARD!" This time, when she brought down her staff, the usual pyrotechnics began, and the card appeared in front of her staff. Sakura reached out for the card, but it slipped thru and landed in Dan's hand. He raised his other hand in a clenched fist, and with a mighty cry of "OYAJI!" fell to the floor. Sakura took the opportunity to take the card from him. She looked at it for a second, then noticed Tomoyo had her camera focused on her. So she did the only natural thing. She performed her victory pose. *********^_^********** That evening proved to be very interesting. Back at the hotel room, Sakura received a call from Karin boasting about how she had won the tournament. She also told Sakura that her return ticket was no longer valid. Now Sakura, Tomoyo, and Li (Who also received one of these calls) were trapped in Hong Kong until alternate arrangement could be made. On top of that, Kero hadn't come back yet. It would have helped if he had... Tomoyo had told Sakura about the card not remembering being sealed. After a bit of time and deep meditation, Tomoyo realized that she couldn't either. The strangest part was that Sakura's dream from earlier seemed to indicate that Focus had just been created... "What if it WAS just created!" Sakura blurted out. Both Li and Tomoyo looked at Sakura. "What if, somehow, just like things from my past life are seeping into my present one, the same thing is happening in the opposite direction!" Li looked at Sakura as if she were crazy. "Wouldn't it make sense to say that if I'm trying to merge my two lives now, then things centered around my life may begin to merge as well?" Tomoyo understood perfectly. Li wasn't so lucky, and so he let out a, "Huh?" "The Clow Cards! Somehow, they are beginning to change to reflect my fighting! Focus is the way in which a fighter controls his or her KI!" Li blinked. He was obviously still confused. "Ah forget it. I'm probably wrong anyways. We should wait for Kero to get back before we jump to conclusions." Just then, there was a knock at the door. Without thinking clearly, Sakura got up and said, "That must be Kero now!" and ran to the door. She yanked it open. "Kero, what took you so...long?" Sakura slowed down when she realized that it wasn't Kero. "I don't know who Kero is, but I did ask you out on a date. Are you ready to go?" Toya asked. *********^_^********** ********************** LEAVE IT TO KERO-CHAN! ********************** "Konya nyatchiwaaaaaaaaa!" "Today! On! Leave! It! To! Kero! Chan! We! Will! Talk! Incredibly! Slowly!" "On second thought, lets not." Kero laughs at his own joke. "Today we will take a look at...well, whatever this thing is." Kero pokes it. "Um. It's big. And round. And I dunno what else." Announcer voice: Due to some technical difficulties, the usual Leave It To Kero-Chan segment had to be canceled. But don't worry! We have a special once in a lifetime special! ****************** LEAVE IT TO KARIN! ****************** "OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!" "Sabotaging that useless Kero segment was the best idea I've come up with today!" Out from the side steps an SD-Karin. "In this segment, we are going to take a look back at the life and times of one KARIN KANZUKI!" "OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHO!" Suddenly, the lights darken. "No! It can't be the end already! I haven't even gotten to the part where I laugh some more..." *********^_^********** Author's notes: Boy was that tough. I wasn't even sure I'd be able to get it done. As it is, I barely had time for pre-readers. Y'know, I should probably thank them. Jason and Richard. Thanks! Richard deserves another thank you for helping me with some scenes that just felt flat before. I'd also like to thank Ard for giving me the extension in which I got to finish this off. But the real thanks have to go out to Lurker. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have half my story now. On the fateful day of November 21, 2001, I was contacted by Lurker. He had intended to chew me out for my involvement with the Toya stuff. Which ultimately resulted in the Bison stuff of which everyone doesn't like. Even I'm not overly liking it anymore. Maybe someone should come up with a decent reason for him being involved in the story? I don't want to be stuck with that burden though, so I avoided him entirely. But I digress. Lurker talked with me, and explained some things I hadn't noticed in his first part. I felt saddened by the fact that I COULDN'T remember them. But that's what happens when authors don't follow up. Hopefully now I've reminded authors of the true danger threatening the BitS universe. One last thing worth mentioning. I would have had this part done sooner. If I wasn't still 18 and attended school regularly. If I didn't have to share the lone computer in my house with my brothers. If I didn't allow myself to be distracted by games like Chrono Trigger, Super Mario 64, and Super Smash Bros Melee (spanning three generations of Nintendo!). If only Chanukah didn't roll around on the evening of December 9, 2001. But things happen. I got it done. Weather it's good or not is up to the readers to decide. This being my first impro part, I hope I've done something good here. The only thing left to say is, thanks for reading! December 11, 2001 (otherwise titled, the day where I go insane.)
