Li unbuckled his seat and leaned across Tomoyo to get a better look out the window. Tomoyo pushed herself further into her seat in an attempt to avoid touching Li. When she failed, she began to blush very deeply, a fact that Li totally failed to notice. The plane was still climbing, and Tomoyo whispered. "Li. Sit down. It's just fog." "No. It's a card. But which one?" He cursed himself for leaving his Derivatator in his luggage instead of taking it onto the plane with him. The sword was sealed into a secure package for the flight. Airline security refused to let him board with it unless they personally secured it. And they did. He leaned back and re-fastened his seatbelt at Tomoyo's urging. There was a card out there, and he wanted it. He didn't want Sakura, that pretender, to get it before him, but now he was going on a vacation. At least it was with Tomoyo. A shudder rocked the plane, and Li held on to the seat, oblivious to Tomoyo holding onto him for support. Tomoyo dared a glance at out the window. She knew what turbulence was like, but this... this felt different. The tip of the wing had disappeared. She gaped aloud. "Li!" He turned to look out the window himself, but staying in his seat, this proved less effective than before. The plane was leveling out. "Attention all passengers. This is the Captain. We are experiencing mechanical difficulties and will be returning to the airport immediately." The plane began to bank to the right, pulling away from the fog that had begun to envelope everything in sight. The edges were yellow, but the mass inside was a more normal white. A glob of yellow mist protruded towards the plane. It reached out, under the wing, and expanded to contain one of the engines. It retreated back to the wall, but it left behind nothing. The engine had disappeared. The plane shook hard at the sudden change in flight dynamics, and a few people yelled or screamed. Tomoyo included. She clutched Li harder, wondering how they were going to get out of this. She remembered this card. ********** <__< BLOSSOMS IN THE SPRING <__< A crossover Improfanfic started by The Eternal Lost Lurker Street Fighter and all related trademarks belong to Capcom. Part 25: Sakura's MISTy Memories By Jon Berry ********** Sakura waved until Li and Tomoyo had boarded the plane and it had left it's berth to taxi to the runway. She casually walked away. OK. Not so casually. She skipped away, happy at the thought of a week without Li. Of course, he had to take Tomoyo with him. Or did she want him to go with her? Her memories of that little event were fuzzy. Sakura adjusted her backpack, and Kero-chan poked his head out of her blouse pocket. "No Li for a week. That means we can capture cards without his interference." Sakura looked down at Kero. And saw that he was in the wrong pocket. She twitched. "Kero-chan," she purred, "what are you doing in my shirt pocket?" Kero looked at his bulbous surroundings. A small trickle of blood started coming from his nose. "There wasn't room in your pack, so I snuck into the only available pocket." He stretched. "Thank's for moving that strap, it was getting hard to breath, all squished in like that." Sakura's response was to pluck the little plushy from the pocket and to drop kick him all the way to the front doors. -- The plane shuddered again, but the fog didn't attack again. The cabin had settled down into brooding panic. The plane finished it's turn and quickly came to a line for landing. Li stifled in his seat. He remembered where the access to the cargo hold was, and where the sword had been put. He had his plan ready. Now all he needed was... "Smile Li!" Li turned to Tomoyo. She held in her hand her camcorder. Where she had gotten it from was something that boggled his mind. He set up a strained grin. "Did you really think you could go without me?" -- "Ha! Are we ready?" Sodom waved SWORD at some random underling. Poison stepped out of the shadows. "Really, Sodom." She purred. She ran a hand along his chin, what showed under the armour he wore. "You should save that rage for Guy. And the Card Captor." The random underling approached. "Sir! We will be ready in an hour." "Excellent." Rolento despised these two for their use of the magic cards. But he would show them true power in time. Today, Mad Gear was going to take this city. -- Sakura was outside, staring intently at the yellow sky. "Kero, is that a...?" The plushy stopped rubbing where it was sore, and looked up at the sky. "Hmm. Yes. It does seem to be a card, but I can't get a firm sense of location or direction." He flew up a few meters. "I can be of some assistance." Sakura snapped around, and stopped herself from taking a swing at the man dressed in an orange Gi. "Guy." He introduced himself. The name rang a bell in the back of Sakura's mind. Kero came and landed on Sakura's shoulder. If anyone was watching, the fog would make them think twice that the plushy was actually alive. "Oh yea. How?" Kero asked. There was a card here, but it was so diffuse. He couldn't keep his attention on Guy. "Not here." He said. He turned and began to jog away. Sakura followed, not sure just what this was about. Kero crawled into her backpack, not willing to fly wherever they were going. It took half an hour, but Guy led them deeper into the fog, to the small industrial center across the river from the airport. He led Sakura along the river front, and then into, and on top of a loading warehouse that was currently between occupants. Once there Guy took a couple of moments to catch his breath. Sakura merely leaned against the access door. Her chase of DASH had been harder. Of course, before that, she would have been gasping and wheezing from exhaustion. "I am impressed. Being a Street Fighter, you are stronger that we had expected. And that strength will serve you well in your role as the Card Captor." Guy stated after a moment. "So? I know that already. Known that since day two. Now. What is going on?" She could feel the errant card. Closer, and more distinct. "You have already encountered the organization Mad Gear. They have come into the possession of several Cards. Some you have since sealed." Sakura thought she knew where this was going, but let him continue. "There remains only two cards in the organization. They are located in the persons of Sodom and Poison. I would like your assistance in defeating them, and removing the cards from their possession." Sakura worked her mouth, trying to come up with something intelligent to say. She was saved by a most unexpected voice. "Sakura! There you are!" Tomoyo's voice cut across the roof from the fire escape she had climbed up. Sakura sweat dropped. She walked over to her friend. And found herself helping a very annoyed looking Li onto the roof. Guy had caught up. "What are you doing here?" He asked, echoing Sakura's unspoken question. "Um, yes. Shouldn't you two be on a vacation? You know, outside the city?" Sakura's mind raced. What was going on here? It was Li who answered. "We would have, but the plane was trapped inside this fog. Our flight was forced to turn back after being damaged. The yellow fog is corrosive, but the white is safe." "We took a taxi." Tomoyo interrupted, explaining how they caught up to Sakura and Guy. Li pulled out his Derivatator. "And the card is..." Guy stopped him. "There is no need for that. I know where they are." He indicated the adjacent building. "The cards are located in that building there." He indicated the large building located next to the one they were currently standing on. It was three stories tall, and through the fog, they could see figures patrolling around the edges of the building. Tomoyo jumped in. "Wai! I know!" She grabbed Sakura's arm, and began to drag her off to one side. "I brought you a costume Sakura! You have to put it on if you're going to capture a Card!" Sakura tried to get out of her death grip, but somehow she could not resist her pull. Tomoyo dragged them out of sight. "What is that all about?" Guy asked Li. Li leaned back against a brick chimney. "You don't really want to get involved. It's complicated. That and Tomoyo brought a costume for Sakura. "Costume?" -- Sakura sweat dropped. But she did so when Tomoyo's back was turned. She was keeping Kero-chan from looking at Sakura as she was changing, and she personally didn't want to spoil the surprise of seeing her Sakura getting dressed. The costume was remarkably simple. And modest. A white shirt and sweat pants, all trimmed in red. But over that, Tomoyo had put a red tank top. The neckline of the top was covered by a simple black necklace that fixed to the tank top so that it wouldn't fling around in combat. Tomoyo had also provided matching red knee length padded boots as well as gloves. To the belt was a loop for the Key Staff, and a pouch for the Clow Cards. Tomoyo, finally satisfied that Sakura had the costume on, pulled off Sakura's headband, then affixed the Kero-chan pin before putting it back on, only on top of her hair, the pin stuck over her right ear. Sakura looked at herself in a mirror, and nodded approvingly. "This is nice Tomoyo. Really." Tomoyo bowed. "I'm so sorry Sakura-kun. I couldn't get the costume I wanted, so I had to go with this one before it was completed. I was going to work on it while on vacation, but now..." She pouted. "But now I can see what alterations I have to make before you can wear it properly!" Tomoyo brightened. "Wai! Now go catch that card!" Back on the roof, Guy had just finished filling Li on what had gone on before he had arrived. Together they looked at Sakura. "It doesn't seem to unusual." Guy said to Li. Li grimaced. "Tomoyo was rushed. Believe me, when it's done...." He didn't get a chance to finish. Tomoyo came bouncing up to him, and wrapped herself around his arm. He blushed. She pulled out her camcorder. "All right! Everyone in frame! I want a picture!" Sakura could do nothing as Tomoyo had pointed the camera at her. Li got a one- handed push into view as he took up a position to Sakura's left. Guy shook his head. "No. Thank you. I would rather not have my picture taken." He was warned by Li to be nice to Tomoyo and had taken his warning to heart. Tomoyo, satisfied that she had gotten enough footage at this moment put the recorder away. Now that they were ready, Guy walked to the edge of the building. "Shall we go?" Sakura nodded, and released the keystaff. She put it into the loops in the costume. She leaned on the edge of the building. "So, what's the plan?" "I kick in the front door, defeat all who stand before me, defeat Sodom, Poison and Rolento. Sakura seals the cards. I take Mad Gear to justice." "Sounds simple." Tomoyo popped up. "It's not going to be." Li spoke. "We will be outnumbered by a large factor. But we have the Cards on our side." Tomoyo nodded, approvingly. "Humph. Let's stop wasting time. You two are supposed to be on vacation, and I intend on seeing you off." Sakura began to drop down the fire escape nearest the Mad Gear Headquarters. Guy followed suit, and Li led Tomoyo in following them. Tomoyo recorded the building, careful to keep Guy out of frame. She then turned the camera on herself. "And this is where the great Sakura will capture more cards. It could use a little sprucing up though." She then turned the camera back to the trio as they leapt from the staircase. She focused of Sakura in her new outfit, making mental notes about how to modify her old designs. Guy dashed ahead, Sakura falling behind. Guy knew where he was going and Sakura was content to let him lead. And if this was a trap, a Hadou-shou to the back would keep him down. He charged a group of three guards, who spotted him and charged at him in return. Guy attacked with a series of punches and kicks that sent all his attackers sprawling to the ground. One got back up, but Sakura grabbed him from behind, and wrapped her arm around him head as she squeezed a half dozen times before slamming an elbow to his head, knocking him unconscious. Guy nodded, and ran for the door. He slammed into it, shattering the wooden door and frame, and knocking down the man who was standing behind it. He finished him off then waited for the rest of the group to arrive. Sakura was right behind him, while Li had slowed to stay with Tomoyo. When they arrived, Guy looked at Tomoyo. "You should not be here. This will get dangerous. You may be injured." Tomoyo shook her head. "Nope. Li or Sakura will protect me." She pulled out her taser. "And I am not defenseless." She put the taser away, but within easy reach. Guy nodded. "So be it. But be careful. I do not wish to add you to the list of those injured by Mad Gear." He went left, along the wall heading for the river to clear out the enemy along that route. Sakura sighed, and turned right, deciding to get away from this walking enigma. With little choice, Li took the third route offered, and with Tomoyo following, advanced down the center corridor. -- Guy kicked another grunt into the wall, and he smashed thru, into some machinery beyond. The machinery wasn't operating at the moment, so he didn't die right away. Yet another grunt who had chosen the wrong path, for whom justice would have to take it's course. But his true enemies lay beyond. These were merely road bumps on his path. -- Li was getting annoyed at this. She swung his sword, and three fell to their knees, and collapsed. Tomoyo put her taser back. She didn't need it. "Just how many of these people are there?" And why didn't the police notice the buildup of this gang? Tomoyo shrugged. "Want me to taser them so they don't get back up?" "Nah. It would probably be more useful to mark one of them, and if they come back, we would know." Li walked off into the next room, and Tomoyo could hear the sounds of battle. She pulled out a pen. -- Sakura punched one. He fell down. Typical thugs. Can't take a real blow. Another group charged her, yelling war cries. They were looking a little haggard. She wound up. "Shinku-Hadouken!!!" She focused her Ki, and sent a blue ball hurtling towards each of the idiots charging her down. They all fell down. Typical. As she walked by them, she noticed something odd under the helmet of one of them. Not under immediate threat of attack, Sakura bent down and removed the helmet. On this guy's forehead was, written in blue ink, the letters L and T, surrounded by a blue heart. Sakura's heart skipped a beat, but returned to normal. Nah. It couldn't be. Even evil grunts had to have a love life, didn't they? -- Sodom paced around the large loading bay that they had decided to use as the location of their last stand. That it happened to be the nerve center of the facility was not really noticed. Poison stopped his pacing in the middle. She leaned against him, his armour, and whispered. "Not yet. They will come, or they will die." Sodom swung SWORD around. "Yes. They will come. Our forces will serve to slow them down. Rolento?" Rolento had not yet moved from his location. He was more concerned with the video footage of his enemies as they approached. Guy was his usual self. The young woman known as the Card Captor was very dangerous. Although she had not yet displayed the use of magic, her focus, her Ki was outstanding. Poison may require help to defeat her. The young man and his woman friend were minor. Although he used magic, it was focused on the sword. Sodom may have fun with him, and the girl. Even her little shocker toy would not help. "They will be here soon." He said at last. -- Guy polished off the last one, and paused for a moment, recovering his stamina. He smashed open the door, and emerged into the heart and sanctum of Mad Gear, Tokyo division. "SODOM!!!" He roared. Sure, Rolento was there, as well as Poison. But still. Sodom turned his masked head to his challenger. With a flourish, he drew SWORD. "Guy. At last. I shall kill you." The nemeses charged at each other, murder in their eyes. At theat moment Sakura opened a loading bay door, and found herself face to face with a purple haired woman. Instinct told her to move, and she rolled backwards as the woman tried to kick her lights out. "Hello Captor. I'm Poison." Deus Ex Machina, working overtime, had Li come down a stair case, Tomoyo following behind. He spotted Sakura fighting Poison, and sensed the card in her. Farther was Guy, locked in battle with Sodom. Even from this distance, he could see SWORD. He ran towards the fight between Guy and Sodom, eager to claim the card for his own. "Not so fast young man." Li was spun around to face a man without a card. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Rolento. I care not for your name, except to mark your grave site with." He swung his club at Li, who blocked it with his sword. -- Guy punched and kicked, but Sodom blocked every blow with that damned sword of his. He slammed his fist into the unrelenting steel, but Sodom just grinned. He slashed at Guy, who jumped back, his Gi getting torn clean across his chest. 5 centimeters, and that attack would have cut his heart. Guy grabbed a piece of loose pipe, and swung at Sodom, who blocked again. Sodom, almost off handedly, swung again. Guy tried to block with the pipe, but the sword cut clean thru, slicing Guy's cheek. He touched his blood, and felt the power of the card flare inside of him. Now was not the time to hide. Now was the time to battle. To find the truth and render judgement. -- Sakura swung and missed. Something that had been repeating often as of late. Poison jumped over Sakura and landed just behind her. Sakura spun around and blocked. Her ankle complained, she twistedit after the first round of ppunches and kicks. There was a card in this person. But Guy had said there were many cards. Poison kicked, and Sakura blocked. Fine. Play that game. Sakura returned the kick, and Poison jumped out of the way. Again. "Come down here!" Sakura ran over her list of cards, and realized that she couldn't bring Poison down, but she could join her. "JUMP!" She called, the card lending it's power to Sakura. Poison jumped again, (did she know anything else?), but this time, Sakura was ready. "JUMP-Shououken!" Sakura vaulted into the air, knocking Poison out of the air. Sakura landed, but Poison came down hard. The breath knocked out of her, she gasped. Sakura grinned. -- Li ducked and swung. "RAJIN SLASH!" The magic flared, and Rolento jumped back to avoid the blow. Rolento grinned. This boy had potential. Although why he was here was a question he would figure out someday, now was not the time to ask. Rolento pulled out a grenade and tossed it towards his opponent. He heard the young girl gasp from her perch above. Li wasn't stupid. He swung at the grenade, not with the edge of his sword, but rather with the flat of the blade. He knocked the grenade aside, and it exploded out of effective range of anyone. Rolento kept up his attack. He threw a knife at Li, and it got past his guard, burying it in his shoulder. Li felt the poison course thru his veins. He stuggled to block Rolento's next attack, but his sword was easilly knocked aside by Rolento. The paralysis spread from his arm to his chest. He dropped to one knee, trying not to faint, and Tomoyo yelled out. But she wasn't in a position to help. Rolento advanced. "Young man. You have so much to learn." -- Sakura was distracted by Tomoyo's yell. She saw Li on the ground, and Rolento advancing towards him. She knew what was going to come next. Poison was still down, and Sakura knew she had a moment to act. "SHINKU-Hadouken!" Her overpowered attack got a further boost from the magic she poured into it. She released the powerful blast at the unsuspecting Rolento. It moved fast and hard, a blue ball that promised death to the unwairy. Rolento spun from his attempt at a finishing blow to block the errant attack. He held up his billy club in an attempt to ward off the attack, but his luck was not to be. The ball of ki smashed thru his club, splintering it in his hands, then slammed into him, picking him up, and carrying him across the room, into a wall. Rolento left a small crater in the wall, knocked unconscious. Tomoyo had reached Li, and was cradling him, helping him out. Poison slammed a foot into Sakura's back, sending her hard into the ground. Sakura felt a couple ribs crack. "What, think I was out so soon? Not so good are you, Card Captor?" She spat out the words, and then began to wrap herself in a yellow haze. -- Guy dodged again. His Gi was torn in a dozen placed from the just missed slashes of Sodom. He was also bleed from another half dozen cuts. They bled profusely, but hw wouls not let his wounds distract from his mission. For his part, Guy had attacked when Sodom could not, in mid attack, and had landed a few good hits on the evil man. "You will be called to Judgement! You will pay for your crimes!" Guy charged at the charging Sodom. LIBRA pulled the power that it needed, and Guy was a blur of motion. SWORD came up in a vicious arc. Guy, unconcerned with defending himself, didn't feel it bite into him. Instead he reached for Sodoms's face, and grabbing it, pulled down, bringing his knee up at the same time. The crunch of bone on bone was a sharp crack that sounded throughout the building. No one noticed though. Tomoyo was busy tending to Li, Li was in to much pain, as was Sodom. Rolento was still out of it, and Poison was busy pounding on Sakura. Guy himself had noticed what SWORD had done to him. His arm had been torn open, a clean cut that bled profusely. He hastily wrapped his headband around his arm, above the wound and pulled tight, trying to staunch the flow of blood. Guy breathed deep, trying to focus at the andrenaline faded, and the card returned to it's dormant state. He could not over come it and collapsed on top of Sodom. The sudden weight caused the groggy Sodom to fall down as well, his head hitting the hard concrete floor with a resounding CRACK, sending him into unconsciousness. -- Poison delivered another kick to Sakura. Another painful blow. The mist was forming ever denser now. What was it that Li had said? Yellow = Bad, White = Not much better. Sakura ran to get some room to fight, and hastily erected SHIELD to keep the Mist away. Mist? MIST? Something tingled at the edge of her memory. That the card was somehow familiar. Of course it was. She had captured them all before, had she not? SHIELD gave her room to think. A flash of movement, and Poison bounced off SHIELD. Sakura glared at her. Poison appeared again, this time she directed all her fury at SHIELD. She was no match for the SHIELD, and it didn't take her long to figure that out for herself. "You may be protected Card Captor, but your friends are not!" Poison disappeared. Sakura's thoughts raced. Where was Kero when you need him? MIST... "RAIN! Drench out MIST!" The card raced out, and it began to rain inside the building. For a moment, the mist was gone, dragged into the puddles on the ground. Sakura dropped SHIELD, and looked for Poison through the rain. Guy was collapsed over Sodom in one corner, and Rolento was still motionless in another corner. Tomoyo was dragging Li above the rain, up to the catwalk above. And Poison was charging back at Sakura, a look of rage in her eyes. Baka. "SHIELD me." Sakura whispered. The card responded, forming an invisible barrier around the Sakura. "THUNDER!" Needing no instruction, Sakura slammed her keystaff outside SHIELD, sending THUNDER surging through the water formed by RAIN. In the same instant, she recalled RAIN, as to try to avoid RAIN being hurt by THUNDER. Poison was fried by THUNDER, who wisely kept its power confined to just Poison, instead of spreading out to affect everyone. She collapsed in a heap on the floor, twitching in shock. THUNDER returned to Sakura, and she recalled all her active cards. She raced to Poison. "Return to the guise you were meant to be in! MIST!" Sakura swung the Keystaff at Poison, who tried to block the magic, but could not through the haze of her injuries. The tip of the keystaff touched Poison's forearm, and the Clow Card began to materialize at the end of the staff, and then it was done. But then as the energies of MIST were sucked out from Poison, tipping her into unconsciousness, Sakura saw the grin on her defeated foe's face. It was something she didn't like. "SAKURA!" Tomoyo yelled outloud. She turned to see the last dribbles of yellow mist fading away from the catwalk that supported Tomoyo and Li. And then it gave way. Sakura wished time would stand still as she screamed. "DASH!" She moved on the wings of magic, ever seeming to be slow. She tore across to where the catwalk had spun over on it's uneven load, to dump it's human contents onto the floor. "Make me BIG!" The card spun out, and wrapped Sakura in it's magic. She grew in size, to catch her friends. But the card was... Sakura felt something different about BIG. It was just weird, like it was more familiar, intimate, with her. One hand caught Tomoyo, while the other grabbed Li as gently as she could. And she remembered. MIST. A play. Cinderella. Trying to help Tomoyo, and Li rescuing the both of them. She remembered. She looked over to Guy, who was standing waist high. Sakura gently put Li and Tomoyo down together, then dispelled BIG. She shrunk back to her normal size, suddenly feeling empty, and incomplete. It was the card, she was sure of it. But Guy demanded her attention. That, and she could sense the card in him. She swung the keystaff at him. "CARD!" Guy grabbed the head of the staff, and pointed it at Sodom. "He has SWORD. You can seal that card, but not me. You are not yet strong enough. And Rolento has escaped. My duty is not finished. Justice must be served." Sakura spun around to see that Rolento had, indeed, disappeared. She turned back to the unconscious man at her feet. "Return to the guise you were meant to be in! SWORD!" The card formed, and silently floated to the waiting hands of Guy. Or rather, the one who was in control of him. He handed it to Sakura. "I must tend these wounds." Guy swept past Sakura, the card in full control. He had grabbed both Poison and Sodom in his run. She tried to reach out to grab him, but found she could not move her arm. Sakura could only watch helplessly as he escaped her sight. "Come back here and fight!" Sakura yelled helplessly. But it was no use. Guy was gone, as well as the card that controlled him. But what card? "Kero? Hey Kero! What's his card?" Sakura asked aloud. No answer came from the flying plushie. Sakura looked around. "Where's Kero?" Tomoyo thought for a moment. "The last I saw him, I had put him in my bag, but then I put your clothes in it." Her eyes widened. "Back in the other building!" Sakura rolled her eyes. "Come one. Let's not give him any more time with my stuff than he already has." She slung Li over her shoulder, noting the bandage on his shoulder. "Is he going to be alright?" Tomoyo nodded. "It wasn't deep." They made their way out of the building, and back across the alley, up the fire escape, and encountered Kero, circling warily around two bags. Sakura's and Tomoyo's. After throwing a Hadou-Shou at him for good measure, Sakura sat down, and signed her two new cards. Li chose this moment to wake up. After everyone was filled in on what had happened, Sakura decided. "Alright. You two, go back to the airport. Your flight might be leaving now that MIST is sealed." Li and Tomoyo nodded and began to move off. "Wait. Tomoyo?" Tomoyo turned back to Sakura. "Yes?" "Um, Tomoyo?" "Yes, Sakura?" "I don't remember. Why did you get me to play Prince Charming, instead of Li?" Tomoyo's face was one of pure joy. "I'll tell you tomorrow Sakura." Li was still brooding over his failure, he failed to notice "Tomorrow? But don't you two have a plane to catch?" Tomoyo and Li looked at each other. Sakura sweat dropped. "Come on, I'll FLY us there." The trio, plus Kero winged off into the sky. Rose watched from a distance. Sakura was coming along quite nicely. Constellita would be pleased at the defeat of Mad Gear. That would mean that she would stop sending them cards. She smiled. Life was great! -- Ryu walked into the village that had supplied him for the past months. The villagers gave him the stack of letters, they were all from Ken. He might read them later. But today he had other things to do. More important things to do.
